Community rules
Koupir works because everyone says what they see, nothing more. These rules apply to alerts, messages and ideas.
What you can post
What you see or know near you:
- a water or power cut, its time, its return;
- a blocked road;
- rising water.
What is forbidden
- crime and news items;
- naming or describing a person, talking about vehicles (plates, models);
- politics;
- insults, threats, hate;
- false alerts, and anything that imitates an official notice: weather and cyclone warnings stay those of the Meteorological Services;
- links, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.
The law
In Mauritius, posting a false or misleading message is an offence (Information and Communication Technologies Act, section 46). The author of the message answers for it. If you are not sure, wait, or leave your alert “to be confirmed”: neighbours will tell.
Moderation
- An automatic filter refuses messages that break these rules.
- Every message has a button to flag it. It disappears at once for you; flagged by three different neighbours, it is hidden for everyone.
- A phone with two messages hidden within a week cannot write messages for a day, then a week. It can still raise alerts.
- Koupir takes content down on request. When an investigatory authority gives notice, it is hidden on receipt: takedown form or abuse@koupir.com.
- A device that abuses can be blocked.
Your name on Koupir
You have none. Your messages are signed “Neighbour from” followed by your locality: the one you chose as “where I live”, or else the alert’s. Nothing else points to you.
